Tech Tip Tuesday: How to Complete Pitot Zero (Video Transcript)
In this demonstration video, instructions are provided to help users complete PITOT ZERO on a AV-30. You may need to complete PITOT ZERO if you just completed a software update, or you are indicating airspeed while on the ground or in the hanger, and that's going to be indicated here [left-hand side of the AV-30 device, see photo below):
In order to begin this process, you will need to turn off the unit and place the unit in “install mode.” So, first, you are going to power off the device and wait until the screen goes black. Once it has, you will press the center button (PUSH-SET) and apply pressure until you see the uAvionix logo appear—which will then be your sign to release the button.
- Once the AV-30 device has fully powered on and loaded, you will follow the instructions below:
- You will press the left button (left of PUSH-SET button) 1X to select “Menu”
- You will then come to a sub-menu, and you will press the left button 2X and you will see “INSTALL” pop up on the screen.
- Using the center “PUSH-SET” button, we are going turn the knob to the right until we see it show “PITOT ZERO PRESS TO ZERO”.
- The screen states to “Press” in order to “Zero,” so we are press the center button 1X to make that selection.
Once you have pressed the center button, the font will go from white to purple and your screen will read: “Uncover Pitot. Aircraft must be stationary and in still air.” At this point, you will want to remove your PITOT cover if you have one, or anything that may be covering it. Then, you are going to press the right button (HLD BRT) in order to select “ZERO.” The device will then proceed to take a measurement, to see if there’s a difference between PITOT and static.
The screen will then read: “Measurement complete. P-S difference __.” In this demonstration video, we have a difference of 1.1. Once the measurement is taken, it should clear any indicated airspeed that you have there, and it will also be ready for the software update also. At this point, press the left button to select “DONE” and go back to the “Homepage” of the device. But now that you have completed all of these steps, you have successfully completed “Pitot Zero.”
