What is the pingStation 3?
The pingStation 3 is a robust, dual-band (978MHz and 1090MHz) Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) receiver designed for real-time detection of equipped aircraft, providing ground, surface, or low-altitude surveillance. Encased in an IP67-rated protective enclosure, it's built for permanent outdoor mounting in harsh environments or mobile use, with simple installation via a pole-mount bracket and a single Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) cable for both power and data. An integrated GPS ensures precise timestamping, and multiple units can be networked for wide-area coverage, supporting data formats like ASTERIX CAT021, JSON, and Compressed VRS.
How to locate the IP address?
If you have a pingStation 3 and are unable to locate the IP address, and have run an advanced IP scanner with it is plugged into your laptop, try the following: Plug the pingStation 3 into a network switch and then rerun the advanced IP scanner.
How can I set the pingStation3 to work with Multicast?
The pingStation 3 does not natively stream ADS-B data via multicast. It sends data to a single IP address and port (unicast). To share that data with multiple devices using multicast: (1) Configure the pingStation 3 to send data to a PC or server on your network. (2) Use that PC/server to rebroadcast the data as multicast or multiple unicast streams to other devices.
What security is built into the pingStation 3?
The pingStation 3 does not have any type of security built into it.
How can I reset the pingStation to defaults?
There is not a reset to defaults but if you set up a static IP Address on the pingStation 3 please reference the Recovery Methods found in the “User and Installation Guide” page 22-24.
What user interface can I use to display the ADS-B traffic?
Virtual Radar Server (VRS) can be used to display the ADS-B traffic received by the pingStation 3. In order to accomplish this, you can follow the instructions in section 13 of the user/install manual located here.
