Avidyne recommends for the "VOR/LOC/GS ARINC 429 Config Page" to use the "Format TX" setting of "VHF 429". VLOC operation with this setting will work fine. See Table 134 if the IFO Series Installation Manual Rev 25.
The reason the "GPS/GPS 429" works in some installations is because those IFDs have the optional unlock "GPS Legacy Avionics System (GLAS)" enabled. Reference section 7.5.15 of the IFD Series Installation Manual. You can tell if the GLAS unlock is present on a particular IFD by checking the AUX->Sys->Status Software page of the unit and noting if the option "GLAS" is highlighted or not. If the GLAS option is not enabled, it's still possible to configure "VHF/GPS 429" on the VOR/LOC/GS ARINC 429 Configuration page, but the ARINC port will not actually emit data.
The AV-30 does not require the GLAS enablement.
Our current manual directs installers to connect to pins 23 and 24 of P1006 to one of our ARINC 429 receive channels. We're expecting to receive labels 100G, 173, 174, and 222 for VOR/ILS navigation from those pins.
Our current published manual recommends on the IFD VOR/LOC/GS ARINC 429 Configuration page to set Format TX to VHF/GPS 429 This is an error and will be removed in the next manual revision.
