How to Unlock Advanced AP on the AV-30

With the optional Advanced Autopilot Unlock, the AV-30-C and AV-HSI can process GPS Steering (GPSS) messages from a panel mounted navigator. This processing enables the following, based on your autopilot interface (image below is from section 10.4.3 of AV-30-C Installation Manual). The Advanced Software Unlock is performed by navigating to the “Advanced AP” option in the AV-30-C installation menu.

In this video, we demonstrate how to unlock the code for the autopilot GPSS. The first thing you want to do is ensure that everything is off. Next, you will press and hold the center button of the unit that you wish to unlock, until you see the uAvionix logo appear. Once you see the uAvionix logo appear, you can release the center button.

Following, you will want to be sure that you are selecting one of the pages. At the bottom of the unit, you will see “MENU” on the bottom left-hand side, and on the right, it will show which page you are on (in this video, it is 1:3). You will go into the MENU, by pressing the left button 3X until you see the screen at the bottom read “INSTAL ROT TO SEL” [ROT TO SEL= rotate to select].

Then, by using the center knob, you will rotate to the right until you see “ADVANCED AP.” When you arrive to this function, it will either say “LOCKED” or “UNLOCKED.” In this video demonstration, it states it is “LOCKED.”

Next, you click the center button and one thing to make note of is a QR code will pop up when it is done aligning. You will then take your smartphone and scan the QR code with your camera. It will give you a web address that you will need to click on, and it will take you to the place where you will need to purchase your unlock code. The “activation code” will be provided to you once you have checked out.

Once you have received the activation code, you will insert it into the device, using the knob to place the accurate letters and numbers. As you rotate to select the correct letter or number, be sure to press the center knob 1X to make the selection, so that you can move onto the next. Once you have pressed the final number, your screen will read: ADVANCED AP ENABLED.
