AV-30-C ForeFlight Integration Initial Setup

Overview

In this video, we will be reviewing the following:

• Enabling ForeFlight on the AV-30-C.
• Connecting AV-Link and GPS position sources.
• Selecting ForeFlight as the navigation source.
• Viewing and modifying flight plans.
• ForeFlight Synthetic Vision integration.
• Displaying flight plans on the DG and Traffic screens.
• Troubleshooting connection and display issues

The Required Software Versions you will need are:

• AV-30-C: v3.2.1 or later
• AV-Link: v0.3.7 or later
• AV-HSI (if installed): v1.1.0 or later
• Latest version of ForeFlight

Instructions

In this demonstration video, uAvionix customer support will be walking you through how to set up and use ForeFlight with your AV-30-C display. Starting with software version 3.2.1, the AV-30-C can use the AV-link to receive flight plans directly from ForeFlight. When paired with a GPS source like a Sentry, SkySensor, or other GPS position source in the aircraft, the AV-30C can compute additional navigational data including autopilot guidance based on your ForeFlight's flight plan.

NOTE: All reference images below are screenshots from the instructional video linked above. 

To begin, the first thing we need to do is confirm your software versions. The AV-30-C should be 3.2.1 and the AV link should be 0.3.7.  (most updated as of 2026, see our Service Bulletin for the latest software updates). The AV-HSI, if installed, should be 1.1.0 (see our Service Bulletin for the latest software updates). This is not required for the functionality, but if it's installed, you will need to have it updated.

Next, once everything is confirmed and updated, complete the following steps to set up ForeFlight integration:

1. Turn on ForeFlight on the device you plan to use (i.e., iPad, iPhone).
2. Enable ForeFlight on the AV-30-C
   • Press the left button under the menu 2X (this will bring you to a display screen that reads: “SET UP ROT TO SEL” [rotate to select]).
   • Rotate the center knob (PUSH-SET) to the right, until you see wireless GPS. If this is set to disabled, you will want to enable it to say ForeFlight (press center knob 1X if this is the case).

If you have not enabled the AV link in the install menu, it will be grayed out (to learn how to Install and Configure Certified AV-Link PMA). In addition to the YouTube video available, please refer to our Support Article: How to Install and Configure the Certified AV-Link PMA.

Once enabled, you will see a pop-up box that will list the status of the position and the flight plan source (see screenshot below from video for reference):

Next, you will go to ForeFlight on your iPad (or chosen device) and input a location you wish to navigate to. After that step is taken, you will see a line drawn on the ForeFlight. If you go back into the setup menu, you will see the position available, and the flight plan received.

Regarding the position, if no cellular data is available on your device (iPad) it will not have a GPS; the position comes from the sky sensor that is on the airplane. Once this is set up, it will process through all power cycles (see screenshot below from video for reference):

Next, if you wish for ForeFlight to be in control of the flight plan, you will need to navigate to the source select in the PUSH-SET (center button) menu and select ForeFlight. If you do not have a VOR or a GPS connected to the AV-30 or to the AV-HSI, then you will not have to select ForeFlight, it will be automatically selected.

Moreover, if you are in the AI display on the AV-30 unit, move to the DG page. If the DG page states, “No Data,” you will need to tell it to look for the ForeFlight plan, through the iPad. To complete this action, follow the steps below:

1. Press the PUSH-SET (center button) 4X until you see “SRC SEL” (source select). Press the center button 1X.
2. Rotate the center knob to select “ForeFlight.” Press the center knob 1X to make selection.
   • You will see a pop-up window that shows the IP address of the device, which is connected to the AV-30. This is very important when there are multiple devices in the cockpit.

To find out what your IP address is, click on the settings in your iPad, click on Wi-Fi and the eye in the circle. This will take you to a page that will show the IP address at the bottom. That is how you know you are connected to the correct iPad or iPhone (see screenshot below from video for reference):

Shifting back to the AV-30 unit, you will notice that it says VFR EFB. This means that ForeFlight integration is only for VFR. This is not to be used to shoot an approach or give IFR guidance (see screenshot below from video for reference):

To clear the flashing pop-up (turquoise colored box in image above), just click any button and it will clear. You can go back to the setup menu and confirm that you have a position source and a flight plan enabled.

Additionally, the image below shows a line is drawn behind us. What we can do here, is change the flight plan so you can get an idea of what it looks like so we can go north of us (see video for visual representation):

In addition to receiving flight plan data from ForeFlight, the AV-30-C also sends its AHRS data to ForeFlight. This can be viewed in ForeFlight's synthetic vision display.

Furthermore, if you touch the line on ForeFlight and drag it to a new waypoint, the waypoint will change. If you want to get rid of that waypoint, I can just delete it from the flight plan in ForeFlight and it will delete on the AV-30-C. This information can also be displayed on the traffic screen. To do so, press and hold the PUSH-SET center button until it the display changes.

We can now see on the screen as well as the flight plan data. If the flight plan is not being displayed, make sure it is enabled in the menu under flight plan.
