pingUSB Setup for Flight

Introduction

The pingUSB was not designed to be used in flight, but if that is your intended use case, make sure to follow these steps.

Note: Some steps may differ slightly depending on the device (tablet or phone) that is being used.

• Make sure that the USB charging port the pingUSB is plugged into has a power output of 5 volts.
• Pick the best spot to mount the pingUSB to. You may need to move it around to figure out where the best ADS-B reception is.
• Make sure that your device (tablet or phone) is in “Airplane Mode”.
  • Open your device's Settings.
  • Tap Network & Internet (could also be Connections).
  • Turn Airplane mode on or off.
• Turn on the device’s Wi-Fi (AFTER putting it in Airplane Mode).
  • Open your device's Settings.
  • Tap Network & Internet (could also be Connections).
  • Tap Wi-Fi
  • Turn on Wi-Fi
• Make sure that the pingUSB is the only device listed under your Wi-Fi “saved networks” and set it to “auto reconnect”.
  • Open your device's Settings.
  • Tap Network & Internet (could also be Connections).
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Go to "Advanced Settings".
  • Tap on "Manage Network" and delete all networks that are not the pingUSB.
  • Tap on "Settings" for the pingUSB network and enable "Auto Reconnect".
