skyAlert Overview

skyAlert is a rugged, wearable ADS-B detection and alerting system that enhances airspace awareness for UAS pilots operating in the field. By detecting cooperative aircraft via ADS-B on both 978 and 1090 MHz frequencies, skyAlert provides real-time audible and visual alerts when crewed aircraft approach within a configurable proximity. skyAlert Demonstration – uAvionix Aircraft Proximity Awareness System 

This demonstration video provides insightful information on the skyAlert in action, on behalf of uAvionix support. Starting by powering on the skyAlert, all the LEDs will light up as the device powers on (ADS-B, ALRT, GPS) and the PWR LED light will become green. Please note that on camera, the LEDs may look like they’re flickering. That is just an effect of the camera’s frame rate. In person, the lights are steady, except for the ADS-B indicator, which blinks when it detects nearby traffic. 

Once the skyAlert is initialized, the LED for GPS should turn green, signifying a good satellite fix. If there is ADS-B traffic nearby, the LED for ADS-B will begin to flash white. In this demonstrational video, you can see the alert LED change from green to yellow, signifying activity outside the immediate alert zone. As that traffic approaches the alerting range, the skyAlert provides an audible alert. 

You can press the power button to mute the alert for 30 seconds. During this time, the LED stays red if the aircraft within the configured alerting range. The alert automatically resumes if the traffic is still close. You can silence it again in the same way. 

As the traffic clears the alert zone, the alert LED changes back to yellow, and then green when it’s even further away. When you’re finished, press and hold the power button for about a second to turn the skyAlert off. All the LEDs turn off and the unit is ready for charging.
