echoUAT Update for your echoALT Installation (Video Transcript)
uaVionix encourages you to read the echoUAT (discontinued) installation manual and the echoALT service bulletin. This video will summarize the process for you. You may use any PC, tablet, or smartphone that is capable of downloading files.
You will not be using the echo app for this process and no changes to your configuration settings are necessary. The first step is to navigate to uavionix.com on your web browser. If you are on a smartphone, you will see a stack icon on the top right corner to open up a drop-down menu, to select the “Support” tab. If you are on a desktop or tablet, you will see the menu laid out at the top of the page, click on the “Support” tab.
Once you are in the support center, you can use the search bar to type in “echoUAT” or you navigate to “General Aviation” and then select echoUAT and then select “echoUAT Documentation” to select the “echoUAT User and Installation Manual."
Once you have opened up the manual, go ahead and turn to page 19, to section 9.4.2 titled “Connecting the echoALT Retrofit,” so that we may understand how to physically connect the ALT unit into the existing echo circuitry.
The ALT unit comes with a pre-wired harness and has three connectors on it. The connectors only fit into their designated place, which will make it difficult for any mistakes to be made. When proceeding with this process, the first thing you want to do is plug the ALT unit into the second center connector of that harness.
Then carefully remove the plug out of the echo. Next, plug one end of the harness into the echo and then, the plug that came out of the echo plug back into the harness (for a better visual demonstration, watch this video). This completes the installation of the physical installation of the echo.
Subsequently, we will now download two files. Navigate to the echoUAT service bulletin and note that there is a warning that you should not proceed with this installation unless you have the ALT physically wired in.
We will need to download 1) Protocol Software (called Device 1), and 2) Transceiver Software (called Device 2). Next, you will need to go into your network settings of the device you are using and connect to the Ping Wi-Fi. You'll want to open up a browser like Chrome or Safari and type in this IP address: 192.168.4.1. This put us directly into our echo. Click on the ADS-B version, the center one where it says update and we're going to choose a file.
Again, the protocol converter file was Device 1. That's the first one we're going to be loading. After this file loads, we're going to hit the advanced button that's underneath choose file and we're going to go to Device 2. We will then wait a moment for the device to restart.
Then, we are going to go to advanced device number 2. We're going to choose the file and Device 2 was the PING transceiver. Click “Update.” Once complete, the screen will read: Update successful, device 2 restarting. After it's restarted you may now shut down because your installation is complete.
